With the sinking of both halves of the MOL Comfort off Yemen, the work of the cargo and hull insurance adjusters commences in earnest.  Claims for over 4,000 teus will in due course be presented.  Individual cargo underwriters may have to wait many months before their estimates for the loss as a whole are very accurate.  It occurs to us that one of the by products of  the day when electronic bills of lading are the rule in the liner operations will be the falling away of this long period of uncertainty for insurers as documents are collated electronically.
