CargoDocs™
CargoDocs for Liner provides a simple, web-based solution enabling users to replace paper documentation relating to shipping cargo in containers with original, negotiable electronic documents. Specifically, the service enables the electronic creation, signing, issuing and filing of bills of lading and peripheral documents.
Features
The CargoDocs for Liner module features:
- Upload of B/L data directly from operational systems (see section on API below) or entering of data directly into a CargoDocs web interface
- Creation of a full set of documents required for container shipments – ESS recreates your house Bill of Lading templates, so the electronic version looks precisely like the paper documents
- A paperless B/L verification process between shipper and carrier; no printing, faxing, or scanning
- Ability to sign multiple eB/Ls simultaneously and simplified eB/L issuance
- Auto-issuance of eB/Ls
- Centralised B/L Production and electronic submission of delivery orders by customers at destination
- Printable customs documentation or automated customs submission for some countries
- Continuous and automated audit trail
- 12 year secure online access and storage for all eDocs
Benefits

Legal
CargoDocs users are required to sign the ESS-Databridge Services & Users Agreement (DSUA) prior to using live eDocs for the first time. The DSUA is a multi-partite agreement which binds all CargoDocs users to each other and to ESS.

API-Interface
System integration is voluntary for those customers who wish to enjoy the benefits of straight through processing of all key trade data with documentation, operations, scheduling, accounting and trading systems. ESS can manage B2B messages in a variety of common formats (EDI X12, XML, CSV) and protocols (AS2, HTTPS, FTP). All messaging transaction details are stored for archiving purposes.

CargoDocs for Liner is currently being tested in a number of global and regional container tradelanes.

Time to Adopt
NVOCCs can adopt CargoDocs in around 4-12 weeks. See an overview of adoption, which ESS calls ‘onboarding’.
